Hi I lost my big toe nail when I was about 13 now 19 my toe jail grew back to a point but it look like a fungi infection but it's not one so I cute it as much as I can so I can't see the mark on nail can I get it taken off and have a new one put on it looks so ugly please help pip
Hi, Thanks for contacting HCM. Fungal infections in toenails usually appear discolored (yellowish) and thickened. It is a good idea to keep them trimmed back as much as possible, as it is less for the body to have to fight against. There are several topical treatments to apply to the nail, and pills to take as well. As far as putting a new one on, there is nothing that can replace the nail completely, but there are fake nails that can be attached to the healthier part of the nail to make the appearance of a 'normal' nail. If this is the route taken, be sure to monitor for any signs of infection, like redness/soreness/drainage, as this is a complication of that procedure. I hope this answered your question. If you have any further questions, I am here to help. Thank you.
