How To Get Rid Of Insect Bite Mediated Itchy, big Blotchy Red Marks?

Hi doc,

2 weeks ago I was bitten by an insect, it could be mosquito.. or bed bug, I was staying at my friend's house over the weekend, no mosquitos around though.. total in same area of my thigh to my knee, I had about maybe 8 bites.. very itchy.. I kept scratching for a few days. From a small mark it became a big blotchy red marks, I put some menthol ointment it helped a bit, now it isn't itchy & marking very faint, how ever when I shower I can see the blotchy red marks again.. what would be the best way to get rid of it.. thank doc

Hello,
Thank you for posting on HCM.
Insect bites are usually pretty easy to treat unless secondary infection sets in.
I would suggest you consult a dermatologist, who would suggest you short course of oral antibiotics and analgesics. Oral corticosteroids may be added as required. Apply a cream containing halobetasol and fusidic acid twice a day over affected areas for atleast 10 days. Take antihistaminics for itching as required.
Hope this will take care of your issue.
Wish you best of health.
Thank you
