How To Get Rid From Burning Sensation On Penis?

Dear Doc, I have recently been feeling a burning sensation on the head of my penis during sexual intercourse with my wife. Its burning which in turn causes my penis to go numb and soft and will last abt 30 mins after intercourse (i can t perform). It also burns during urination. There is no discharge coming from the penis. There are no visual bumps or anything like this on the penis either. Please help me.

Hello,

There are no bumps on the penis but you are suffering from burning sensation on the head of the penis. Take care of your hygiene. Keep your private area clean and dry. Wear loose fitting cotton clothes. Men who are uncircumcised are prone to balanitis, inflammation of the foreskin commonly caused by poor hygiene, but can also be due to infection or irritants.

UTI is another common infection that causes burning sensation in the penis. Get urinalysis (R/E and C/S) done, if pathology is detected it will be treated with a course of antibiotics. Urethritis, inflammation of the urethra is a common cause of penile burning sensation. It is treated with antibiotics, such as azithromycin (Zithromax) or cefixime (Suprax).

Cystitis or prostatitis can also be associated with a burning sensation in the genitals. Sexually transmitted diseases are examples of infections that can cause penile burning sensation. Get clinically examined by a Urologist.

Get STD tests done at the earliest. STD's like herpes, genital warts, syphilis, chlamydia, or gonorrhea can also cause burning sensation. If report is positive, it will be treated with a course of antibiotics or antivirals. Avoid any sexual activity till you are being treated.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
