How To Get Pregnant While Having Irregular Periods?

I came off the pill (microgynnon 30) last Aug 2013. I had run quite a few packs together so expected things to take a couple of months to return to normal. However it has been over a yr now and my periods still have not returned to normal. They started off around 50-60 day s apart and now the last couple are approx 40-41 apart. Will they return and is this normal as trying to conceive. Am I ovulating?

Hello,
Thanks for letting us know your health concern. From your description, it appears as though you have experienced a hormone imbalance after cessation of the oral contraceptive pills and the situation is slowly becoming normal with the frequency of menstruation increasing. To know whether you are ovulating during a cycle or not, you can either plot the basal body temperature right from day one of the cycle or go for follicular studies. With a BBT chart, ovulation is indicated by a rise in temperature which is persistent if pregnancy occurs. The present duration of the cycle is not a problem so long as you are regularly ovulating, so, do not worry. Hope this helps.
