How To Ensure Hormone Replacement And Treat Menopausal Symptoms Through Food?

Heading to my wonderful Gynecologist to get my staples out today. I have a list of questions for her, but I know she has minimal time to spend so my first question is I am 49 just had the emergency abdominal hysterectomy on Thursday, only one ovary left. I cannot take hormone replacement because of an auto -immune disorder that causes thick blood (anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome). Are there any foods or supplements that I can take to help with any of the symptoms of menopause if I have them? I have just started having major headaches since the surgery.

Hello,

Your question is really good. I would advise you food choices according to common menopausal symptoms women go through to ease your menopausal phase.

To avoid hot flushes, avoid coffee, chocolates, alcohol and spicy food, specially at night.

To avoid weight gain, watch your fat intake and take more brown grains, wholemeal pasta, bread and rice.

To enrich calcium in bones, take foods with more calcium, phosphorus, Vitamin D and K like processed foods, frizzy drinks etc.

Tiredness can make you crave for more sugar but trick the craving by choosing fruits and nuts.

Dry skin can be helped with nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and almonds. Drink lots of water and keep skin hydrated.

More proteins from cottage cheese and oats will keep depression and irritability at bay.

Restrict on excess sodium and caffeine while taking more soya milk and flour, tofu, green beans and celery.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
