I have been diagnosed with bell;s palsy about 10days ago, took Prednisone 5 days and valcyclovir 7 days. Pain in my ear deep, is severe and keeps me from sleep. I do have percocet but all it does is takes the edge off, so I rarely use it b/c I don t want to keep using narcotic. Drs haven t suggested anything else to ease my pain. sometimes warm moist cloth or gel pack micro helps but still pain persists. any other ideas?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of developing Bell's Palsy for which you have taken Prednisone ans Valcyclorir. Since the pain is present and persistent I doubt about the cause of the FAcial Nerve palsy. There may be something in the middle or internal ear that has caused this. I would advise you the following in such a case: First of all get a clinical evaluation and examination by an ENT Surgeon so that the local causes can be seen. Secondly, to go for a contrast enhanced CT scan of the mastoids. If any problem like acute otitis media or cholesteatoma is present, you may need an urgent surgery for treating the root-cause.
