How To Determine Whether I Was Pregnant?

I am 19 years old. I thought I was pregnant but then I had bleeding like a period with some brown thick discharge so I thought I miscarried. I'm still having pregnancy symptoms such as fatigue, my breasts are bigger, I'm sensitive to foods and smells, I've been very sick lately, and I'm having some cramps in my lower abdomen. Am I pregnant?

Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

Pregnancy symptoms can vary widely between women, and other hormonal irregularities can also cause symptoms that people mistake for pregnancy, especially if their period was late. Things like stress, weight gain or loss, or other hormonal problems can sometimes make your period late even without being pregnant. Worrying about pregnancy can even cause late or irregular cycles.

Therefore, the best way to determine if you are pregnant is to do a urine pregnancy test. The tests you can purchase yourself are just as accurate as a doctor's office, just try to use your first morning urine which has the greatest concentration of pregnancy hormone.

If you do have a positive pregnancy test, it is important you see a GYN doctor right away as you may not have a normal pregnancy if you have been bleeding.

I hope I was able to answer your question and that my advice was helpful.

Best wishes, Dr. Brown
