How To Deal With Side Effects Of Abruptly Stopping Cymbalta?

My doctor is taking me off cymbalta 60mg because of chronic diarrhea and starting me on Brintellix 5mg. He told me to stop the cymbalta cold turkey and start the Brintellix. That was 11 days ago and I'm having severe nausea, but not sure if it's stopping the cymbalta or starting the Brintellix. I really want to get off antidepressants all together. I started the cymbalta 10 months ago because I gained a lot of weight on Paxil ( which worked well.)

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

Cymbalta is duloxetine and the drug is a SNRI drug and now you have been advised to take Brintellix or Vortioxetine 5 mg. You stopped Cymbalta cold turkey and this has resulted in withdrawal effects with symptoms like nausea. Probably the nausea is due to vortioxetine doses because the drug is known to cause nausea during start of therapy. As you have stopped cymbalta cold turkey so there is risk of withdrawal syndrome.

If severe nausea persist then consult your psychiatrist for help. In such case medicines like antacids like Omeprazole with domeperidone can help. But these medicines will only provide symptomatic relief. Consult your psychiatrist for prescription.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
