Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 53 year old lady,5'5 148 lbs and an alcoholic for the past 15 years. I detoxed myself and vomited for almost 48 hours straight. I threw up non stop and just sat and held a bucket for 2 days. My throat hurts really really bad and I lost my voice. I am feeling better, it is the 5th day I have not drank . My throat feels somewhat better but I still can hardly talk...I cant really talk. I just wanted to know if this does happen and if it just takes time to heal. I have withdrawn from alcohol before but never had this happen to me.
Hello there, when you throw up your stomach acid ascends up your throat and this damages your throat. That is why there is loss of voice and a sore throat. This is reversible and heals with time. Having an omeprazole or pantoprazole twice a day for 3 days would help as it reduces your stomach acid. Also if you are detoxing you might want to consult a de-addiction specialist. he/she would be able to prescribe medication that would reduce your tremors and restlessness.
Hope this helps, Dr Arun A
