How To Cure Retracted Eardrum?

I have a retracted eardrum in one ear causing dizziness, light headedness. I also have periods of exhaustion, mostly in the evenings. I am using an antihistamine nose spray, garlic oil to deal with bacteria in ear if any. It started with vertigo several weeks ago. Drs prescribed steroid and antibiotic which I did for three weeks though I don t think either did any good. I don t want to be on meds and I need my head back. ER dr said a week at the beach would help as we live in N. Alabama where allergies are typically horrible and this year has been really bad. Any ideas on how to get the eardrum back the way it should be.

Hi,
The cause for retracted ear drum could be due to eustachian tube dysfunction.
This is a tube that connects your nose with your ear.
You should find out the exact cause for this.
I think in your case, its due to nasal problems.
If it's due to allergy alone, then it is medically treatable with antihistamines, decongestants and steam inhalation.
If there is some sort of nasal block due to Deviated septum or polyp it should be surgically corrected.
For retracted drum,if there is no active infection, you can do valsalva. This is done by blowing air strongly, keeping nose and mouth closed so that air will enter the ear via eustachian tube.
