How To Cure Left Side Shoulder Pain That Is Radiating Towards Armpit?

I have had left side shoulder pain for about 5 months now. My sometimes radiates to my armpit, neck, and ribs. However most of the time it just wraps around into my chest(mainly the upper part). I m 23/f and a smoker. I always sleep with my arm under my pillow and my head on top. I normally wake up to my arm feeling weak and on fire. I m trying to wait until I get insurance to go to my gp. Should I be concerned that its a heart problem? I was thinking muscular or nerve problem. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to a pinched nerve in the shoulder. I suggest using anti-inflammatory medication such as Baclofen three times a day. I also suggest using Voltaren gel for local applications. Cold compresses can also be very helpful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
