How to cure high fever ?

Hi, Dr. Grief, my name is Camelia, and I want to ask you a question about my little son.
He is 7, he has fever, 103-104 F, since Monday.
He is taking Advil to reduce his fever, but the temperature comes right back into the high numbers. He is complaining of a little sore throat and an upset stomach.
Yesterday we went to his doctor who ruled out the strep throat
So chances are good he has a viral infection
But there is no runny nose or eyes, no coughing or sneezing, no other symptoms. He just thru up and now is not able to eat or drink...
I am really concerned about him, due to the high fever
Do you have any advice?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

High temperatures can occur as a result of viral or bacterial infections. Viral upper respiratory tract infections are more common than bacterial upper respiratory tract infections.

The other symptoms normally associated with these infections such as runny nose, congestion, cough may start as the infection progresses.

In addition to the use of medication to help reduce the temperature, the use of cool liquids, wearing cool clothing and tepid sponging may also be beneficial.

I hope this helps

Thanks for the question. He is likely to have viral fever but kindly check for following things.
1. Is child playful once fever is down or always looks sick.
2. Is there any excessive sweating when fever comes down.
If child is always sick looking then i guess weshould do blood count as it can very well be bacterial infection. Also get test for malaria done. Try for him to do betadine gargles thrice a day and use ibugesic if fever is not controlled by paracetamol.
