I have Type 2 Diabetes, was on Metformin 500 mg am and pm. Began to have frequent dry heaves after 5 years on the Metformin. My family physician has put me on Glipizide. I ve tried taking it 30 minutes prior to eating in am, but felt sick and blood sugar dropped to 74 within 2 hours. Then it was suggested that maybe I should take it before evening meal. Felt fine, but after going to bed I awoke around 1 am trembling and shaking. I took my blood sugar and it was 48...way too low I think. Yesterday, I began to have dry heaves with this medicine and have continued today. Any suggestions?
Dear sir/madam i can understand your concern i am very sorry for your condition. in my opinion it seems that you are having low sugars because of Glipizide. Dry heaves might be due to glipizide. i suggest to discuss with your doctor regarding a novel therapy called DPP-4 inhibitors this Medication will not give low sugars and able to control sugar very well. Metformin is a very good drug and not associated with low sugars. regards Dr vamsi Diabetologist
