How To Control High Blood Pressure?

Can the loss of a loved one cause high blood pressure? My son died of cancer 1 yr. ago, and I have Noticed I am very tense since. My blood pressure has gone into the range that I worry about. Can I Take anything to lower my blood pressure that won t cause other problems?

Thank you for your question! Loss of a beloved person is really a big psychological schock; this psychological post traumatic schock lasts sometimes more than a year, but it is impossible te tell you now that other factors can't contribute to your high blood pressure state. nevertheless I recommend you to measure sistematically your blood pressure different times per day for a period of at least a week and with those measurements written down you should consult your doctor (GP or cardiologist or internist) and he will decide the significante of those values; if you need treatment fot your high BP some other blood test and exams should be performed by your doctor; may be your problem could be resolved with a simple anxiolytic or a somnifere drug (that helps you sleep well) but this should be decided by the doctor interview.
