How To Control Dandruff And Hair Loss?

hello i've got severe dandruff in my hair and suffering from hair fall. though in my family there is no history of hair fall, i don't know why this is happening to me. i used to have dense and thick hairs, until six months back when it all began. everyday when i comb my hairs or shampoo it plenty of hairs would fall. is there any correlation between severe dandruff and hair fall. And what I could so to my hair to treat the hair loss.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

Dandruff is a common cause of hair fall. Even mild dandruff can cause increased shedding.

I ask my patients of dandruff to use an anti-dandruff shampoo regularly. 2% ketoconazole is available OTC and can be used twice or thrice weekly. It is effective in most of the cases of dandruff.

If the dandruff is resistant to anti-dandruf shampoo then it is advisable to check with your dermatologist as it may be due to an underlying disease like psoriasis.

Your dermatologist might as you to use a topical steroid + salicylic acid lotion for resistant dandruff.

Topical coal tar based shampoos are also commonly prescribed by dermatologists for resistant dandruff.
