How To Control Blood Sugar Level?

Hi, i have been diagnosed with GDM in 7th month of pregnancy and have been taking insulin(30/70.- 18 units at night and 8 units in morning).Although my PP always came out between 100-115 but my sugar levels for fasting were always in the range of 120-140. Now since i m in my last month of pregnancy, my dr. has prescribed me Insulin N tritated as N -9AM(8units)-9PM(14 Units) along with Insulin R tritated as R -6 units before meals 3 times a day. I m 5 feet tall weighing 62 Kgs. Inspite of this insulin treatment and dietary regimen, my fasting sugar levels are shooting up than before(Fasting-130-150, PP-140-160). Pls advice if this is normal or not?

Dear Madam,
Please do not worry. Generally during pregnancy a slight hormonal imbalance is expected. This is the reason for your fluctuating sugars. It is very important to have blood sugars under control for good fetal growth. so please titrate insulin as per your blood sugar values. After you deliver please do a Glucose Tolerance Test after 6months. Since you are requiring a higher dose of insulin there is a high possibility of you being in a prediabetes state. If we are able to diagnose prediabetes early it will be easier to postpone development of diabetes.
all the best!

Treatment for gestational diabetes aims to keep blood glucose levels equal to those of pregnant women who don't have gestational diabetes. Treatment for gestational diabetes always includes special meal plans and scheduled physical activity. It may also include daily blood glucose testing and insulin injections.

If you're testing your blood glucose, the American Diabetes Association suggests the following targets for women who develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy. More or less stringent glycemic goals may be appropriate for each individual.

Before a meal (preprandial): 95 mg/dl or less
1-hour after a meal (postprandial): 140 mg/dl or less
2-hours after a meal (postprandial): 120 mg/dl or less

you must be very srtict if needed you have to increase your insulin dosage
