How To Control SGPT And SGOT Levels In An Alcoholic?
Hello Sir. I am 34 yr old male and been drinking from last 8 yrs ...I drink 3-4 large pegs every day...I have gone through some blood test and my SGPT and SGOT levels are consistently higher....Recent numbers are SGPT-149 and SGOT 185...am really worried...I tried to quit alcohoal a lot but failed.....Please tell me if this figure is really dangerous????
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Yes SGPT value of 149 and SGOT of 185 are very high & this might progress to fatty liver disease or alcoholic cirrhosis, if not taken care of. However fatty liver disease or cirrhosis would be diagnosed by proper examination & scans. You should stop your alcohol intake & visit a gastroenterologist for full checkup of liver. An ultrasound would be done to find out any major problem in liver. If there is no major problem in liver, only stoppage of alcohol will reduce SGOT & SGPT levels. In case starting stage of fatty iver disease is found it could be controlled with some medicines too along with alcohol quitting.
Refer to your physician Hope this information helps
