hi i did two rapid test for hiv and both came out negative last week and before this. i have children and was tested during both recent pregnacies. recently my husband tested positive for hiv he has never tested before but now did three tests at different places and they all came out positive.i was tested before this and my results came out negative even when we went for our tests together. what is going on please.
There is a possibility to have discordant couples; i.e. couples in which one partner is infected and the other not. False discordant couples also exist in which one partner becomes positive before the other ( the one who is negative is yet to sero-convert and become positive later).
It is not all exposure that will lead to transmission of infection. Some people are more susceptible e.g. presence of current STDs, lacerations, certain illnesses etc.
You need to repeat your test three months later or better still go for antigen/antibody ELISA test or PCR with your husband.

you should go for western blot test. this will give you confirm diagnosis. you can also go for 3rd or 4th generation elisa which gives you result but most specific test is wester blot test. cost is more for western blot and less for elisa. choose which test you want to do. thnx
