Hello,
Ovulation occurs two weeks prior to the onset of the next menstruation. Hence, fertile period can be calculated when the cycles are relatively regular with a margin of 5-6 days. With grossly deranged cycles, it is difficult to calculate safe period using this method. In a regular 26-35 day cycle, safe period is usually considered to be 10 days prior and a week after the period. You can use the ovulation kits, though, these help only to some extent. In the current scenario, it would be advisable to use some protection. Hope this helps.
