How To Avoid The Rash On Ankle Due To Poison Oak From Spreading?
Hi! Earlier today I fell into poison oak. A rash has developed on my ankle but no where else. I clean it and applied cream and then wrapped it in gauze to avoid contact with any other skin. I have been told that if the rash makes contact with other skin it will spread the rash. What is the best way to avoid spreading when I get into bed? Should I leave it wrapped? Un-wrap and then re-wrap?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain in case if you are exposed to poison oak and led to rash over your ankle but yet has not progressed, you will still have to be careful as it can spread in a period of 12 to 72 hours leading to delayed reaction..
As you have washed the area with antiseptic soap and wrapped with gauze it is fine but in order to prevent it from spreading and becoming aggressive you should consult a dermatologist and get evaluated..
He can advise you to apply a steroid ointment over the rash.. In case if it tend to spread or become aggressive oral steroid and anti histamines like Allegra can be advised.. Antibiotic ointment can be advised to prevent infection.. Do cool compresses to reduce inflammation..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
