Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m trying to conceived. I had intercourse last Friday and I expected to ovulate on Monday. I ve noticed a creamy milky discharge and have been experiencing slight cramps and throbbing in my lower abdomen/vaginal area. I m expecting my period on October 13th. How soon can I do a pregnancy test?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. For pregnancy test to come positive in urine sample, you need to miss your periods. Since sometimes urine pregnancy might take a little longer time to show positive results, it would be better to get your beta-HCG levels tested as soon as you miss your periods. Its levels will tell about the pregnancy status and also it can be used to monitor the progress up to 12 weeks. You can also get an ultrasound scan done once you miss your periods to look for gestational sac and fetal pole. By about 6 to 8 weeks, cardiac activity can be picked up, which says that your pregnancy is viable too. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
