Hello Mrinal Manna,
metformin (the active ingredient of
glycomet) is the best first choice for type 2 diabetes. Is the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes certain? Has your doctor asked you to do hormone tests? Are you overweight? Any family history of type 2 diabetes? Your glycosylated
hemoglobin A1c (
HbA1c)?
I'm asking all those questions because you're young and it's more common to have
type 1 diabetes than type 2 and also because you had no success with metformin.
Possible reasons for ruining
glucose regulation in a type 2 diabetes include:
- bad eating habits: you should maintain a healthy body weight and avoid unhealthy food like fatty sauces, hamburgers, biscuits, sweets, etc. You should eat a lot of fiber and fish. Increasing body weight results in worsening fasting blood glucose.
- inadequate treatment: while metformin is a great drug, it's not sufficient for all patients. Some need higher dosages, others need multiple drugs. It has a lot to do with your HbA1c level.
- Reduced physical activity: exercising helps a lot with blood glucose regulation. A sedentary lifestyle worsens diabetes.
- other drugs: certain drugs worsen glucose regulation.
- wrong diagnosis! : taking type 2 diabetes pills won't help with type 1 diabetes!
I'll assume that your doctor has done what he should and correctly diagnosed type 2 diabetes.
Besides the general instructions I've already provided to you, knowing the level of HbA1c, your body weight, eating habits and physical activity is essential for counseling.
If you'd like, you can ask again, providing all the information I've mentioned and I'll be glad to guide you to a better glucose control.
Also if you have any further questions on the aforementioned instructions, please ask for clarifications.
Kind Regards!
