How Should Contraceptive Pills Be Taken?

Hi. I have been prescribed to take contraceptive pills starting 5th day of my period for 27 days, bouzouki of the cyst I have in my left ovary which is 2 cm+. Last month I took it as I should, this month I took one on 5th day and another one on 6th days and then didn t take it for 5 days till now. I wanna know if it is safe for me to go back to taking the pills till the day before my regular period or should I just wait for next month and take it regularly then. Thank you

Hi, thanks for your question.

In my opinion, you should take your last pill now and then go back to your regular routine. If you also happen to be sexually active and would like protection against pregnancy, then you should use condoms for the next 7 days.

You have mentioned that you take these pills because you have a cyst in your left ovary. It is worth-mentioning that recent studies have shown that contraceptive pills are not much effective in the resolution of functional cysts of the ovaries. Usually these cysts resolve by their own after few cycles. The only thing you need is ultrasonographic monitoring for the cyst. If it doesn’t resolve in the next few months, more investigations would be required to find out the nature and management of the cyst.

Hope this helps.
