How Should Birth Control Pills Be Taken Effectively?

We generally have sex after 1-2 months , and took some emergency contraception pills such as unwanted-72 , but recently we shifted towards regular contraceptive pills like femilon, as the high one time dosage of EMC was causing problem, given the above scenario of intercourse once in 2 months . Is there any routine for taking the regular contraceptive pills say before 1-2 weeks ahead of intercourse ? Rather than taking pills for whole month ?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Yes taking emergency contraceptive pill on regular basis is not recommended, as they have higher side effects. The regular birth control pills should be taken once daily at approximately same time of day for 21 days starting from 1st day of menstruation bleeding (you could also start these from 2nd to 5th day of menstruation but you have to use condoms for 1st week) & then stoppage of pills for 7 days. In these 7 days you will have your periods. Start taking the pills again after a 7 day gap.
Taking birth control pills starting before 1-2 weeks ahead of intercourse is not recommended as it will cause irregular cycles. As your sex frequency is less condoms usage would be great, you have to use it just during sex.You could also opt for long term options of contraception such as contraceptive patch, IUD(intra uterine device), etc

Refer to your gynaecologist for more queries
Hope this information helps
