Hi,

Based on the history your friend seems to be suffering from hypothyroidism for which her doctor advised her to take Ebexid. Ebexid should be taken on an empty stomach one hour before the breakfast. It contains thyroid 15 mg along with multivitamins supplements and is used for the treatment of hypothyroidism to bring thyroid levels to normal. Continue taking it as prescribed by your doctor and get your thyroid function tests (T3, T4, and TSH) done after 6 to 8 weeks.

If the thyroid function test is abnormal, indicating hypo or hyper thyroidism, you need to consult your doctor. Had I been your treating doctor I would have advised you to take Levothyroxine for the treatment of hypothyroidism rather than Ebexid because of better efficacy of Levothyroxine and its response can be easily monitored with thyroid function tests. Moreover, most of the standard text books of medicine do not recommend the use of of Ebexid as such.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
