How Should Atenolol Be Taken?

I ve taken atenolol for several years until it was not available, then metotopol, I m back on atenolol but when I ve checked my BP it is high: 187/64, the tablet I m taking 100 mg has on the back: GG 264. Should I take another pill? Cut one in half? This has been going on for a few days.

Have you been prescribed the medication by your doctor. If you have not seen a cardiologist, seeing a cardiologist would be a good idea.

Usually, the medication needed for high blood pressure changes with age. Generally, people younger than 40 are put on beta blockers and/or angiotensin antagonists.

People older than 40 are usually placed on calcium channel blockers and diuretics. Since your systolic blood pressure is high, it would be a good idea to see a cardiologist and mention the high blood pressure. Therapy, exercise, and diet changes are usually suggested.

One would also check the blood pressure frequently to confirm the efficacy of the treatment.
