I have experienced two congestive heart failures. The second one almost cost me my life; I was in ICU for 2 days until I came around. Unfortunately, it caused damage to my heart's left ventricle, and wasn't pumping blood at the rate it was normally doing. This is called hypertophic cardiomyopathy, the condition I have. Please, by all means; take your blood pressure pills if you have high blood pressure. My condition was caused by a number of things, primarily a flu virus the docs said, and I did have the flu at the time of both incidents. Being sick can raise your blood pressure. Speaking from personal experience, it is very serious, and has caused me several problems, including the inability to work the jobs I had, cannot lift weights any longer, nor run or jog. I get out of breath climbing even the smallest stairs, sometimes just from walking for awhile, and often get very fatigued for no reason, because my heart is still weak. My condition has improved, but the damage has been done, and my own life expectancy isn't all that great. Please take care of yourself and God Bless.

Hello, I would like to know if it is possible to obtain an idea of how long an 89.5 year old man who has been officially diagnosed with CHF at age 86 and is currently not interested in receiving any further intervention would have to live in terms of months or years. He will not have any further operations or treatments and just want to let come what may. He currently sleeps a lot and is rather frail. He is curled somewhat from the changing shape of his bones and his legs are swollen and red all of the time. He sounds like he speaks under water a great deal. He used to walk some but now just to the grocery. He may have lapses of memory. Basically I would just like to know how much longer a person can sustain life in this condition? He was diagnosed at 86 years old and now is 89.5years old. How many years would be a likely guess? Or is it months?

My mother was recently diagnosed with Chronic Heart Failure and was put on a beta blocker and water pill. She weighs 98lbs and normally has low blood pressure. She is very weak and gets tired only walking 50 feet. This has all accursed within a 2 week period. She just took her blood pressure and it was 105/55. Is this low? What should we worry about?

My grandfather is 89 years old and is in heart failure. The opening in his arotic valve is about the size of a pin hole and he cannot pass blood through it. He has been in and out of the hospital 8 times since december and is in congestive heart failure. When we found out about this 4 years ago, we did not do the surgery because it was too high risk but now we have no choice but to do it. What are the chances of recovery?

I walked upstairs and was slightly out of breath. I sat down and noticed my heart rate was elevated but no pain or discomfort. I then noticed I could see my heart rate in my eyes as it caused them to pulse. I'm just wondering if that is a problem.
