How Safe Is To Take Methotrexate, Humira And Nitrofurantoin Together?

Is it o.k to take Methotrexate, Humira and nitrofurantoin macro together. I also take oxybutynin and I am using the bathroom to urinate at least 7 to 8 times per night. Have had my bladder raised 3 times and still have incontinence. Now before we go further will I have to pay for this as we proceed? If so, I need to stop now and wait until I can get to my regular physician. I did not know there was a charge, so I will stop now. Forget about the answers.

Hello,

It's not safe to take these medications together.
1. Taking Humira together with Methotrexate may increase the risk of serious and potentially life-threatening infections.

Your doctor may already be aware of the risks but has determined that this is the best course of treatment for you and has taken appropriate precautions and is monitoring you closely for any potential complications.

Contact your doctor immediately if you develop signs and symptoms of infection such as fever, chills, diarrhea, sore throat, muscle aches, shortness of breath, blood in phlegm, weight loss, red or inflamed skin, body sores, and pain or burning during urination.

2. Taking Methotrexate together with Nitrofurantoin may cause liver damage which is a potential side effect of both medications.

You should consult your doctor immediately if you have fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash, itching, loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, pale stools, and/or yellowing of the skin or eyes, as these may be signs and symptoms of liver damage.

3. Taking Nitrofurantoin together with Humira may increase the risk of nerve damage, which is a potential side effect of both medications.

Consult your doctor for an alternate effective drug that does not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. Also let your doctor know if you develop weakness, numbness, pain, burning, or tingling in your hands, feet, or limbs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
