How Safe Is Taking Synthroid For Thyroid?

my tsh score came in at .84, and i feel quite fatigued. however, when my score was higher last April, at 2.18, I also felt very fatigued. Then, my Dr. put my dosage higher, and i initially felt better, but the last few weeks, I ve been feeling very tired. For several years i was on .05 synthroid, and last April that was bumped up higher to 75 or .075. I often feel quite cold and do have weaker muscles due to Post-polio syndrome, but wonder how much the thyroid problems are having. Should my dose be higher, lower, or should I switch to the more natural thyroid, instead of synthroid. My Dr. asked the lab to check my T3, but the lab wouldn t do that. I m so tired, I can hardly function. Help me please. Dianne

Welcome Diane,
I understand your frustrations. It does sound as if your doctor was correct in wanting to run a full thyroid panel and possibly a cortisol level.

Your thyroid status has bounced between the TSH being too low (low enough to test for hyperthyroidism) and then will return to normal.

There are some dietary things you can try to keep your thyroid working. Avoid goitrgens such as broccoli, cabbage & anything made with soy. Your dr can determine your iodine status. A deficiency of either iodine or selenium can cause thyroid issues.

It might be time to seek out an endocrinologist as not only do they have extensive training but can get labs approved that a primary can't.

The problem with taking natural thyroid is inconsistent dose. and may not get at source of problem
