A radioactive substance which is called a radiotracer is injected in the patient through the vein which goes into blood and there by reaches heart muscles. Then the stress test is performed like regular stress test and photos are taken with camera with gamma rays and photos before stress and after stress and the two photos are compared to find the condition of the coronary arteries .Being nuclear test this identifies better the areas which have less blood flow and thus the diagnosis is made. The risk is the intolerance of the radiotracer if the body of the patient does not accept it or is allergic to.Please discuss further details with your cardiologist.

Nuclear stress test is safe from radiation as well as cardiac point of view. You will first be given a test dose of the radioisotope to check for any possible allergy. Thereafter you will be taken on a table after the complete dose of isotope is given to you and some drug will be given to give a little stress to your heart which will be completely monitored. The vascular perfusion of the heart muscles will then be analysed through camaras which capture the radioimmisions.

Since moving to a new community 2 years ago, I have been advised by my cardiologist to have a nuclear stress test each year. My overall condition seems to be stable and I am wondering if this test is necessary on an annual basis and what the negative effects of nuclear exposure might be.

I had a quadruple by-pass in 1987, a stent 10 years ago and two years ago a nuclear stress test disclosed 3 bypasses were occluded, the mamarian artery was fine and all capillaries were clear. I am scheduled for another nuclear stress test and am concerned. Should I be?
Hi, My wife had a dermoyd cyst removed a few year ago and with it her left ovary. Every since then, she has had a really hard time during her period. Lately, she has experienced a rapid heart rate. She is 23 years old and 105lbs. Generally healthy but she is a smoker. She rarely drinks alcohol and doesn't do any drugs. Her water intake is good as is her diet. She doesn't feel any stress, although, our life is rather stressful. She is anemic and has low blood pressure and her heart rate averages around 100bpm during her period. Is this something we should worry about?

I have had a thudding heartbeat for two days, off and on, mostly on. Also accompanied by shortness of breath. The heartbeat isn't fast or irregular, but I can feel it, like it's heavy in my chest. I've had this before a few years ago, and my doctor thought it was anxiety and wanted to out me on an anti anxiety drug, but I felt like it was a physical issue instead of anxiety. I have low stress, not usually anxious, work out a few times a week, non smoker (for 5 years) recently lost about 35 lbs (1-1/2 years ago) Could this be allergies?
