Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is taking Psyllium husk or Benefiber bad for you to take daily when trying to lose weight? I want to take it to help me feel full so I won t eat as much. When I first got on diet I wasn t having hunger problems. Now that I have started exercising daily, it has made my hunger go up tremedously which makes it hard to not binge eat.
Psyllium Husk is used as a laxative to prevent constipation. Laxative abuse for losing weight is not the right thing to do. It will harm you in the long run as dependency on laxatives will affect your intestines ability to remove faecal waste on its own. This in the long run can make you prone to chronic constipation. If you are looking for fibre rich foods that will reduce your hunger pangs without affecting your calorie intake, then what would be better than natural foods like oats, fruits like water melons, apples, guavas, salads like cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce or salad leaves, etc. munch on these foods as much as you want to satiate hunger without increasing your energy intake. Hope I have answered your query satisfactorily. In case you still need more advice, you can ask anytime.
