How safe is Cefuroxime for strep throat ?

I have been given antibiotics for the second time in 3 weeks due to strep throat symptoms. I have never taken Cefuroxime before and I see some pretty bad side effects. I have tested negative for strep both times but there is clearly an infection. Is this medicine typically used when they don't know where the infection is?

Hello and welcome to health care magic,

If you have been tested negative for strep then you must be having some other infection. cefuroxime though a good antibiotic is comparatively a starting and initial medication. I would advice you to go for a test called the culture and sensitivity testing so that both the infective bacteria as well as its sensitivity to the antibiotic will be confirmed.
hope this helps
