How Many Different Versions Of Generic Cytomel Are Available?
Hi, I am 44 year female, prior to pregnancies (have 3 kids: 15, 13, 10) I was on the low end of weight for my 5 8 frame @ 125-132 pounds. After children births have had difficulty with weight gain. Drs believe I have hashimotos, I have severe gluten sensitivity, milk corn coffee & other food allergies. I am on 10mg of generic Lexapro and other supplements. I am also waiting on test results for lyme disease test. I have numerous classic symptoms of hypothyroid and just found out from blood tests I will need to go on generic cytomel. How many different versions of generic cytomel are available and are there any gluten, corn, lactose, & talc free? Thank you, Tricia

Cytomel is one of the brand medication for a generic medication called liothyronine. There are other brands such as Triostat or Liothyronine T3.
Most thyroid medications are gluten-free, but you may want to confirm those with your doctor before getting prescription if you have such condition as severe gluten sensitivity as described.
Levothyroxine with Lannet brand as well as Tirosint is gluten-free, but Levothyroxine with brand company Mylan is not. Armour Thyroid, Synthroid and Cytomel do not have gluten-containing ingredients, so you can take those with current gluten sensitivity.
However, as far as I know, they have not officially certified as gluten-free because they did not get tested for it.
Armour has an ingredient that is derived from wheat or corn, so you do not want to take those if you have an allergy to corn.
Again, you may want to talk further with your doctor to choose the right medication with your current sensitivity and allergies.
