How Many Days Will Stools Stay Red After Consuming Beets?

How many days will stools stay red after consuming beets? I ate quite a few beets during a late lunch last Friday afternoon, and did not have a bowel movement until yesterday(Tuesday) afternoon. My stools had quite a bit of red in them. Could I attribute this to the beets from Friday?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of eating beets since Friday and got constipated until Tuesday hence no stool; the stool passed on had a bit of red in it, wants to know whether this can be attributed to beet and how many days the stools remain red after consuming beet...
The red pigment that makes beet red is retained in the intestine as it is to a large extent and since you did not pass motion for 5 days, the redness will be cleared in further 2-3 days.
Certainly, the best way to clear the doubt is to get the stool tests done so that the blood is detected if present.
Take plenty of water and a stool softener to clear the bowels before fecoliths set in.
