Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

The effectiveness of the morning after pill has not been studied specifically regarding its success rates in preventing pregnancy with multiple episodes of intercourse. However, sperm remain in the female genital tract for up to 72 hours, which is why the pill is most effective within that window of time.

The overall success rate for preventing pregnancy with the I-pill for one episode of intercourse is 90 percent, meaning 10 percent of the time the woman can conceive anyway.

So I would recommend that in this situation that a second dose of the I-Pill be taken, even if the second episode of intercourse was within 72 hours, because live sperm could remain after the first pill has worn off.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this information was helpful.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
