How Long Will It Take To Cure Pulmonary Embolism?

My name is Ryan and im in Flight School. My flight instructor is in ICU for Pulmonary Embolism. I was just wandering about a coulple of things. Well he has had a cough for quite some time. Its gotten worse and worse. He finnaly went to the doctor and an hour later her was in ICU. How long do you think he will be in the hospital and rebab? What is the mortality rate for something like this? And will he ever be able to fly again if he comes through it?

Thanks!

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Pulmonary embolism is very serious lung disease.
Usual stay in hospital is for 1-2 weeks.
So he is will be on the ICU for 2-3 days the he will will be happy shifted to room.
Usual treatment duration is at least 6-8 months.
During this period, he can not fly for sure.
And after 8 months, he should get done repeat CT pulmonary angiography to evaluate pulmonary embolism.
If embolism is gone then he can fly again but not before 8 months.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your instructor. Thanks.
