How Long Will It Take For The Cellulitis To Be Cured After Taking IV Treatment And Antibiotics?
My 13 year old son has cellulitis on his collar bone. He was in the hospital for 4 days and had 3 rounds of iv antibiotics there, he was then sent home with zyvox. He has 3 days left of the zyvox and there is still redness, swelling and pain on the collar bone area. The redness was on a lot larger area at first so that has gotten better and he hasn't had fever since monday. Not sure how long it will take for the swelling, pain and redness to go away or if he needs further treatment.
Provided the pain, redness, swelling is improving progressively, rest assured that the antibiotics are taking care of things. No fever is also a good sign. It could take about 2 weeks from start of treatment for everything to clear however, what is most important is the progression i.e he should be improving progressively or else, call the doctor for a follow up sooner than later. If I was treating him and you presented me with above info, I'll advise to continue treatment and complete antibiotics because it's improving.
hope this helps.
