How Long Will Darolac Take To Treat Loose Motion With Infection?

Hi, My daughter is 8 months old. From birth itself we had to feed her with powder milk (simyl mct) because mom s milk was not enough for her. After 6 months Dr said to try with cow milk (in small amount). It helped her. Everything was going good. But recently we shifted because of my job. For first two days she was fine but since last two days she got loose motion (4-5 times) we visited a new doctor (because of new place). He asked us to stop cow milk and feed her with Lactogen. He also told us that the loose motion is because of infection and prescribed Darolac. Unfortunetly there is no improvement in my daughter s condition. My daughter s stools color is yellow or sometime green. Please help. In how many days she should be fine? Thank you. Regards Hamza

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

This suggests acute gastroenteritis. If there is no fever, she is playful and the stools are not blood stained, we need not worry. Just continue Darolac for 5 days and give fluids like ORS or salted rice water after each stools to avoid dehydration. Bowel can take 5-7 days to normalize.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
