Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If by cure you mean reversing the degenerative process, taking your spine back to as it was I am afraid that that is not possible. Spinal degeneration is a chronic issue happening over the years due to the wear and tear the spine has to endure. As you age your spine isn't going to get younger, such degenerative changes are bound to happen, in some faster than others. So what is aimed is to slow down the process and control the symptoms. Medication is not aimed at reversing the degenerative process there is no medication for that. It is aimed at alleviating the pain giving time for the local inflammation to subside. So the length of treatment depends on symptoms, if pain persists they may be continued indefinitely keeping an eye on side effects. As for what can be done to slow down degeneration, to prevent recurrences in the future, physical therapy is the best choice. It is the only thing offering long term benefit as it strengthens spinal muscles enabling them to lessen the load on the spine. It should be continued even if pain subsides as otherwise there might be pain recurrences in the future since as I told you it is a chronic issue.

I hope you feel better soon.
