General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Kiran,

Thank you for sharing your concerns with HCM.

Atocor contains the active ingredient called Atovarstatin of the stain drug group used to lower high cholesterol. The main side effects include muscle problems (weakness, pain).

I suggest to keep monitoring your lipid profile every 3 months as its use depends on the levels of cholesterol and other blood lipids.

I also suggest to monitor blood sugar levels as use of statins is highly associated with increased blood sugar (diabetes).

Conducting a healthy lifestyle and diet regimen is crucial in controlling high cholesterol levels and to live healthy.

Tenoric contains 2 main blood pressure drugs (atenolol-beta-blocker and chlortalidone -diuretic). You can keep using them until bp is well controlled. The dose can be reduced gradually according to your health condition, bp levels and EKG findings.

My main concern is the use of Atocor, you can discuss with your doctor about its side effects on muscles and increased risk of developing diabetes.

All the best!
Dr.Albana
