How Long It Takes The Fistula Pain To Go Away After AV Fistula Surgery?

My son has a single kidney that is failing. He is looking at the possibility of dialysis in the near future. We have attended several classes and met some people that were preparing for dialysis. They had recently undergone surgery to create their AV fistulas. Even though it had been more than a month since their surgeries they were still experiencing pain from the fistulas. Is the pain from the fistula gone after it matures or is the pain from it permanent?

General Surgeon 's  Response
The pain from the surgery usually disappears within a few days but there is a strange sensation of the fistula blood flow into the vein which some people sense as pain which can persist but it is not much. I have made quite a few fistulas even in children and they fair pretty well and I do not remember any child complaining of pain few weeks after the surgery. So all the best and I dont think you should be worried about pain of AV fistula surgery. Take care and let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
Take care,
Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
