General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
This depends upon how much injury he got on the back.
If there is muscle strain or hematoma, withing 1-2 weeks it becomes alright But as this swelling is since long, possibility of having some damage to vertebrae are there and requires investigation like x-ray or CT scan.
After knowing type of injury treatment and time duration can be decided.
Consult orthopedic surgeon and get examined.
Ok and take care.
