How Long Does It Take To Notice The Effects Of Milk Of Magnesia While Suffering From Constipation?

Most of the time I have fiber daily. Have been out and got carried away on carbs for the holiday weekend. The last couple of days have been so uncomfortable for me and did take some Milk of Magnesia last night. Today have seen very little results and not eating for the most part. When is the MofM suppose to do it s job?

Milk of Magnesia is a type of laxative that can be taken as a liquid or a tablet. A bowel movement should occur within 1/2 to 6 hours after taking it. However, since you had severe constipation and already on a high fiber diet, maybe should meet a gastroenterologist to make sure is there any anomaly on your colon or what.

Severe constipation usually arise from:
• Colorectal cancer
• Spinal nerve injury
• Prolapse rectum, etc.

The doctor may suggest to do the following tests:
• USG
• CT scan of abdomen
• MRI
• Colonoscopy, etc.

The therapy will depend on the cause that found.
