hello,

Hepatitis B can present in an acute stage with acute liver related symptoms like jaundice, right side abdominal pain etc and in chronic stage can present with chronic hepatitis or hepatocellular carcinoma etc..

It is transmitted through body fluids like blood, semen and vaginal secretions during sexual contact, needle prick or sharing of needles like in drug abusers. Infected mothers can also be transmit to the baby. If you possibly think about your history, you may be able to have an idea, when you contracted the virus. You can ask your partners to get tested to identify the possible cause. Anybody unknowingly could have transmitted through any of the above modes.

The earlier the disease, the higher the chance of progression to chronic hepatitis B infection. Adults have around 5% chance of progression, while elderly have 25-30% progression. Maintaing a strong immunity and nutrtion could help you in reducing the risk of progression.
It can stay inactive for a very long time, maybe your life time. Reduced immunity can activate the virus.
You need to watch for you viral load as high viral load indicates progression especially to hepatocellular carcinoma
As it is a blood borne disease, strong physical prophylaxis is advised during sexual intercourse as you can transmit it to the one you care about.
Blood donation is prohibited. Family members can get vaccinated if they are negative.

At present no cure has still be identified. But most of the associated lesions can be healed. Do look for any related liver problems and kidney problems.

Take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Ready to help again.
