Hello,
Thank you for posting your question to HCM,

Antibiotics will need 48 hours to help with the fever. The antibiotic's most important effect though, is the fighting of the bacterial infection, and with that the fever will lower down.

Most of the cases with fever in children will be from viral infections, which lasts 3-5 days, and subsides by itself after that. You are doing good to continue using the Ibugesic when needed. Antibiotics will not be able to help in these cases. as they work only in a bacterial infection.
Sometimes, if fever lasts more then 3 days, if the symptoms that your child has and the general condition is getting worse and not better, then this is a sign that a bacterial infection might have had complicated the viral infection and so we should start the antibiotic.

Hope the information helps. But to say in brief, it will need 48 hours for the antibiotic to lower the fever, but only if the infection is bacterial, and the fewer may most probably lower by itself in the 4th day if the infection is viral.

Let me know if I can help with any other question. I would be happy to answer.
Regards,
Dr. Klarida Papaqako.
