General & Family Physician 's  Response

Generally, it will heal by one week.

Consult a gynecologist and get evaluated.

If there are signs of infection, you can apply a topical antibiotic like Mupirocin after cleaning with soap and water.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi I was wondering how long does it take the stitches to go away after having a baby. I had to have an apisiautmy. (sorry I miss spelled that) my baby weighed 10lbs 10oz so they had to cut me. My baby is now 11 days old now. I used a mirror to check to see if I saw the stitches I didn t see any but it looks like if they are gone they came out to early or maybe I ripped one and didn t know it is it normal for this to happen? Will I heel back to normal or could something be wrong.

I had a baby 11 months ago. He was posterior. I was 10centimeters dilated for 3hours and not allowed to push. Finally after 3 hours of pain I said i had no choice but to push. The nurse said I could start, she had me push for an hour, than the doctor came in and said I am not getting him out by myself that he would need to use the vaccum. 16mins in with the vaccum he did an episiotomy. My son was 8lbs, 8ounces and his head circum was 37cm. I had 30+ stitches. A week after I had my son, I got a very bad infection and had torn 3 stitches, I got perscribed anti biotics and they worked.. I healed a couple weeks later. For a couple weeks now Its buring where I had my episiotomy. it hurts durning and after sex (more after) its been like that for a long time now. But recently its been burning for a while., Is that normal\?

I have discovered a lump on my episiotomy scar, about the size of a pea. It s pretty painful. Is this normal? I gave birth 4 weeks ago and the scar seemed to be healing well, but now this lump has appeared and it s painful. Any advise as to whether this is normal and what I can do to ease the discomfort? Also how long will it be like this?
