How Long Does A Stage`4 Congestive Heart Failure Patient Has Left?
My father is 85 years old and has been suffering with stage 3-4 congestive heart failure for 7 years, his kidneys are now being affected and he has been diagnosed with rhuematoid arthritis. He sleeps alot and has pain in his joints, weakness in his legs and arms. How long does he have ?
Hello, I am Dr Mody and I would be addressing your concern. Though prediction in medicine is never possible. But considering his age and and development of kidney issues, the statistics are 50% mortality in 1-2 years . However in your father's case the question may arise where to stop during an hospitalisation, whether you would wish dialysis and sos ventilator support if needed. It's best that such details are discussed well in advance by the family considering the wish of the patient. Let me know if any further clarification needed. Regards Dr Priyank Mody
