How Long Does Valium Take To Show Effect?

I am going for a venous procedure and the Dr will give me Valium prior. I asked if I can have it ahead to take on the way (I m being driven of course) but he said I will take it in the office when I get there. How long would I expect it to take to have the desired effect after ingesting?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Diazepam if taken orally starts working in about 15 minutes to 1 hour. Maximum concentration is achieved in about 1 hour. If given intravenously it starts working within a few minutes.

So you should not take the drug in the way, it does not take long to start working.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
