How long does HPV stay active in the system?

This new girl I m seeing told me she had HPV a couple years back and had warts on her cervix and got surgery to get them removed etc. We are scared to have sex in fear in transmitting the disease to me as I am clean. If she hasn t had any warts or anything in 2+ years is it true that the HPV cleared and it not contagious anymore?

Hello,

If there are warts, then it means that virus can be transmitted through sex but better use condom.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
