How Long Do Diltiazem And Simvastatin Stay In The System?

I have been taking diltiazem 24 hr er 240 mg cap and simvistatin 10 mg. for approx. 4 to 5 years. The drugstore where I get my refills (cvs) notified me that thes 2 drugs should not be taken together. After looking at all the adverse effects of taking the two drugs together I have every symptom of the reactions. Joint pain, kidney problems, ect. How long will it take to get this toxic combination out of my system. Having an upset discussion with the doctor that prescribed these 2 meds for me.

It will take about 24 hours for this combination to go out of your system.

If taken together Diltiazem drug increases the blood levels of Simvastatin by retarding its elimination from the body thus increasing the risk of myopathy and liver damage.

When used alone the plasma elimination half-life following single dose of Diltiazem is about 3 to 4 hours. So, for a 240 mg dose it will take about 20 to 24 hours to eliminate the drug from your system.

Whereas, when taken alone without Diltiazem, the plasma elimination half-life of a single dose of Simvastatin ranges from 1 to 3 hours. So, for a 10 mg dose it will take about 8-10 hours to eliminate the drug from your system.

Now, since you have taken these drugs combination together, it will take 24 -30 hours to go out of your system.
